As a business developer at Tappx, my daily work involves navigating the intricate landscape of digital advertising to identify and engage with potential advertisers. Tappx is an SSP and Programmatic Agency, that manages worldwide in-app and web traffic. In the performance Team, we aim to connect direct advertisers with our premium and trusted sources to enhance their User Acquisition (UA) and overall app performance. My primary focus is on verticals such as Betting Sports/Gambling, Gaming, Fintech (Crypto, Trading), E-commerce (food delivery, shopping apps), and many more, with a geographical preference for the US and EU markets. However, this can vary depending on the app.
I start my day by checking my emails and LinkedIn messages, hoping to see replies from my prospects. These platforms are essential for my outreach efforts, allowing me to follow up on previous conversations and initiate new ones. However, capturing and maintaining someone’s attention is a significant challenge. Many might think finding leads and connecting with the right person is easy, but it often feels like searching for gold in beach sands.
After my initial check-in, I turn to the tools that aid my prospecting efforts. One key tool is SensorTower, which provides detailed information about apps within my targeted verticals. With SensorTower, I can access data such as download numbers, top-performing geos, and app revenue. This information helps me craft personalized emails and LinkedIn messages to capture potential leads’ attention.
The CRM I use is HubSpot, which allows me to track all my daily activities, from creating new company profiles to using sequences for outreach via email and LinkedIn. Tracking my work and upcoming tasks is essential to stay organized and ensure no opportunity slips through the cracks.
The real work begins when a prospect responds positively: “I’m interested. Can we do a call to discuss things further?” This moment feels like hitting the jackpot. During these calls, I present Tappx, emphasizing our unique services and their potential benefits. However, these conversations can be challenging. Some advertisers are highly selective and expect comprehensive information in one call, testing my ability to manage the conversation effectively. I strive to handle these calls positively, addressing all questions, even those for which I might not have immediate answers.
After the call, I must send a summary email to reiterate how Tappx can be beneficial. This follow-up is crucial, as it can either seal the deal or keep the door open for future opportunities. Persistence and patience are key in this phase, as the outcome might not always be immediate.
In conclusion, consistency and patience are essential in this job. Knowing how to approach and engage others to make them feel comfortable is crucial. I believe that societal trends are making it harder to connect with strangers and sell services. As a business developer, maintaining a positive mood is vital. We all have bad days, but this job requires a constant effort to stay upbeat and approachable.
Being a business developer at Tappx is challenging but rewarding. It requires persistence, creativity, and a deep understanding of the advertising ecosystem. Despite the hurdles, the satisfaction of helping a client grow their app’s performance makes it all worthwhile. By staying focused on our goals, leveraging our tools effectively, and continuously adapting to the market, we strive to connect with the right advertisers and deliver outstanding results for their UA needs.
